Grandmother knitting up a storm in De Aar
Tannie
Francina Harmse from the Op Die Kruin Retirement home in De Aar,
has been knitting up a storm over the past few months. The Foundation for
Alcohol Related Research (FARR) has been involved with the De Aar community for
several years. And will together with the Dept of Health and FirstRand
Foundation be commencing with an exciting new Healthy Mother ~ Healthy Baby
programme towards the end of January 2009. The aim of the project is to
encourage mothers to attend their antenatal clinics early, so as to be a part of
the programme, which aims at educating & supporting all mothers in De Aar
towards having a Healthy Baby at birth! FARR staff will follow pregnant mothers
throughout their whole pregnancy AND on the birth of their child, those mothers
participating in the project, will receive a beautiful pair of booties for their
newborn baby. FARR approached
Tannie Francina Harmse, well known in the community for her knitting
masterpieces, to knit the booties for the project. No easy feet as she will have
to knit approximately Two Hundred pairs of booties!! Pink, blue, white,
yellow, green and purple booties are being knitted with love by Tannie Francina
for the project and will be most appreciated by all involved. Babies feet will
be warm this winter, thanks to Tannie Francina’s help and the exciting new
Healthy Mother ~ Healthy Baby programme
